Why frugal?

I’m just your normal, run-of-the-mill, everyday woman, trying to make life a bit better for my household. I’m a part-time Certified Public Accountant and ridiculously cheap. I also teach at a local college. I don’t believe in working harder to get everything we want in life. I believe in saving smarter because I value my time with my family. I’ve done the rat-race. I was on track toward an overworked career. Then in 2006, I was diagnosed with cancer. Cancer at the age of 26. Yeah, that’ll derail ya. After I finished chemo and my hair started to grow back, I decided that life is too short to spend to work for stuff. My husband and I looked at our finances, buckled down and I never went back to work full-time. I love the flexibility that our frugal life has given us. I know this is going to sound so 1950′s but I like making dinner. I like being home when my husband gets home. I like running errands while he’s at work so we can enjoy our weekends together. I don’t miss the dry cleaning bills or trying to cram all of our errands into two days so we could go back to work exhausted on Monday morning. Living this way has given us peace, both of us. It’s much calmer around the house now and I love every minute of it.
