I bought one of the discount gift cards for a restaurant and THEN found out the very specific rules that needed to be followed. I bought a $50 gift card for (? don’t remember – good deal). THEN I found out that in order to use it, I had to spend $100 and agree to an %18 gratuity. Didn’t find that to be such a good deal.
In fact, I’ll look up what I paid and gladly sell it for that.
Each restaurant sets its terms and conditions. Many restaurants require a $35 purchase on a $25 certificate. I don’t see a problem with the 18% tip as I usually tip about 20%. The servers that add the 18% tip are losing out.
I would contract the site and ask them if you can swap out your certificate for two smaller ones.
